Dr Ramón Medel

Dr Ramon Medel received his ophthalmology degree from Universidad Autonoma de Barcelona (UAB), Spain, in 1995 and completed a fellowship in Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery at Moorfields eye Hospital in London, UK in 1996. Right after he was appointed consultant in the Ophthalmic Plastic and Orbital surgery department at Hospital Vall D´hebron and Instituto de Microcirugia Ocular (IMO) in Barcelona where he opened both services and started a direct academic link with the UAB in the ophthalmology residency and oculoplastic fellowship programs. 

He was president of the Spanish oculoplastic society (SECPOO) from 2007 to 2011, establishing vital changes to improve the academic level and recognition to the subspecialty in Spain. He has published several articles and book chapters in the ocular oncology and ophthalmic plastic diseases field. He is highly committed with teaching, and currently, he is the director of Medel Eye Hub, based in Malaga and Barcelona, where he keeps teaching to fellows and observers while taking care of patients from all over the world. He has been director of the ESASO Orbital, Lacrimal & Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery module and Barcelona Oculoplastics Meetings since both began. He is an invited lectured all over the world for subjects such as ptosis, orbital tumours, lachrymal and eyelid surgery, among many other subjects.
