Dr Santiago Ortíz

Dr Santiago Ortiz-Perez obtained his Medical Degree in 2004 at the University of Granada (Spain). From 2005 to 2009, he did his training in ophthalmology at the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona. He was an associate professor of Ocular Pathology from 2007 to 2009 at the Polytechnics University of Catalunya. In 2009 he moved to London to do his first fellowship in oculoplastic, lacrimal and orbital pathology at The Western Ophthalmic and Chelsea & Westminster Hospitals for one year. In 2010 he returned to Barcelona and joined the Neuroimmunology Group of IDIBAPS.

He has been collaborating with this group since then, doing several research projects, papers, lectures, and the PhD, which he published in 2015. In 2013 he did a clinical fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, where he gained significant experience in oculoplastic, lacrimal, and orbital surgery. From 2014 to 2019, he worked as a consultant in the Eye Department at Hospital Clinic in Barcelona and as a teaching collaborator at the University of Barcelona. In 2019 he moved to Granada (Spain), where he is currently the Head of the Ophthalmology Department at the University Hospital Virgen de las Nieves, as well as an Associated Professor at the University of Granada. He is the Principal Investigator of the research group Granada Vision and Eye Research Team of the Instituto de Investigaciones Bionsanitarias de Granada (IbsGranada). Dr Santiago Ortiz-Perez also attends private patients at the Vithas Hospital in Granada.

Dr Ortiz-Perez is a regular lecturer in ophthalmology meetings in Spain and abroad, he has published more than 50 peer review articles, he is the author of several books and chapters, and he also does regular collaborations as a medical illustrator.
